Almaty law enforcement has uncovered a deceptive scheme involving the sale of concert tickets, TuraNews.kz reports citing Polisia.kz.
The fraudulent operation, orchestrated by an 18-year-old resident of Almaty, involved posing as an official representative of a ticket sales company to deceive unsuspecting citizens. Notably, the fraudster conducted the illicit activities online, accepting ticket orders through Instagram. To amplify the scheme’s reach on the social network, the perpetrator even enlisted the services of a Social Media Manager (SMM).
The city’s criminal police department confirmed the apprehension of the suspect.
“At present, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which pertains to ‘Fraud.’ The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify additional potential victims,” stated the police.
The fraudulent activities extended to the purported sale of tickets for a 50 Cent concert, and the authorities are actively pursuing investigative measures to locate any other individuals who may have fallen victim to the scam.
