Ukrainian Parliament Approves 50-Year Sanctions on Russian and Belarusian Military-Industrial Enterprises

The Ukrainian Parliament, known as the Verkhovna Rada, has given its approval to a draft resolution presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, imposing sanctions on enterprises within the Russian and Belarusian military-industrial complex for a duration of 50 years. The resolution entered into legal force following the parliamentary endorsement. This development was reported by Ukrainian parliament member Yaroslav Zheleznyak, TuraNews.kz reports citing TASS agency.

In a Telegram channel post, Zheleznyak shared, “The Rada supported the resolution approving the decision of the NSDC (National Security and Defense Council – TASS note) dated November 20, 2023, ‘On the application of sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in the military-industrial sphere.'”

On November 20, President Zelensky officially enacted the National Security and Defense Council’s decision on these restrictive measures, subsequently submitting it to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration. These measures include a prohibition on engaging in trade operations involving goods regulated by Ukraine’s law on state control of the international transfer of military and dual-use goods with residents of Russia and Belarus. Additionally, the sanctions extend to curbing investment cooperation related to the production of such goods and transactions involving residents of third countries.
