Kazakhstan has called for the creation of an International Biosafety Agency, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other biological risks and threats, Turanews.kz reports.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made the appeal during his speech at the general debate at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“COVID-19 has painfully demonstrated our vulnerability to future biological risks and threats,” Tokayev said. “Kazakhstan appeals to the Secretary General and the Chairman of this Assembly to launch the process of creating an International Biosafety Agency.”
Tokayev also praised the efforts and plans that have been proposed by various states and groups of countries in support of a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
As earlier reported, Tokayev participated in the Central Asia – USA Summit of Heads of State and spoke at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. He stated that the voices of developing countries in the UN Security Council should be heard, he praised the support of UN members in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, he spoke out against the acts of burning the Koran, and finally Tokayev said that Kazakhstan is ready to act as a regional hub for food supplies.
