Tajikistan and Kazakhstan sign $82 million in business deals

Entrepreneurs from Tajikistan and Kazakhstan signed agreements worth more than $82 million at a business forum in Dushanbe on September 12, Turanews.kz reports citing the TASS news agency.

The agreements cover the supply of chemical products for geological exploration, confectionery, ice cream, sunflower oil, and ferrosilicomanganese. The parties also signed a memorandum of intent to enter into a contract for the supply of fertilizers.

Fifteen Kazakh companies representing the food, construction, oil, chemical, pharmaceutical, and other industries took part in the business forum. These firms export or plan to begin exporting products to Tajikistan.

From Dushanbe, 70 representatives of leading companies of the republic were present at the business forum. The main investment agency of Tajikistan, “Tajinvest”, showcased investment opportunities in the republic and published a video about the activities of “Avesto Group”.

At the end of August, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon visited Astana, where he held talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Following the visit, the press service of the Tajik leader reported that expanding ties with Kazakhstan is a priority of Dushanbe’s foreign policy. Rahmon clarified that the countries intend to increase trade turnover.

As TRT Russian previously wrote, in the first six months of 2023, 489 enterprises opened in Tajikistan, and 2.4 thousand new jobs were created. This was stated by the Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic, Sherali Kabir.

The politician clarified that in Tajikistan, in the first half of the year, profit from production increased by 10.3% compared to the same period last year. For six months it amounted to 20.7 billion somoni ($1.8 billion).

By the end of the year, the republic intends to more than double this figure, to 47 billion somoni ($4.2 billion), Kabir emphasized. If Tajikistan can maintain the given rate of industrial growth, then by the end of the year it will show the best result in the CIS.

The business forum and the agreements signed between Tajik and Kazakh entrepreneurs are a positive sign for economic cooperation between the two countries. The increased trade turnover and investment opportunities that are expected to result from these agreements will benefit both economies.
