The State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan has released data on the import and export of watermelons and melons in the first 7 months of 2023, Turanews.kz reports.
According to the data, Kazakhstan imported 43,500 tons of watermelons and melons worth $8.9 million in the first 7 months of 2023. The top supplier was Uzbekistan, which accounted for 79% of the imports. Other major suppliers included Iran and Tajikistan.
Exports of watermelons and melons from Kazakhstan in the first 7 months of 2023 totaled 2.9 thousand tons worth $959.6 thousand. The main export destinations were Mongolia, Latvia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, and Estonia.
In comparison with the same period in 2022, there was a 1.8 thousand ton increase in exports of watermelons and melons from Kazakhstan.
The data also shows that Kazakhstan imported a total of 97.5 thousand tons of watermelons and melons worth $23.3 million in 2021-2022. Uzbekistan was the top supplier in this period as well, accounting for 67% of the imports.
The data suggests that watermelons and melons are a popular import item in Kazakhstan. The country imports a significant amount of these fruits from neighboring countries, but there is also a growing export market for Kazakh watermelons and melons.
The State Revenue Committee noted that the data is based on customs statistics with third countries (which are not part of the Eurasian Economic Union). The amount is based on the declared customs value, and the weight is net.
