The Kazakh film “Aykai” will have its world premiere at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which will be held from October 4 to 13 in South Korea. The film was included in the “A Window on Asian Cinema” program, which showcases new and representative films by Asian filmmakers, Turanews.kz reports citing the press service of Kazakhcinema.
“Aykai” is directed by Kenzhebek Shaiqaqov and is his second full-length film. The film tells the story of a man who was born without legs due to the effects of a nuclear explosion at the Semipalatinsk test site. The film also explores the life of a generation of Kazakhs who grew up in the shadow of the test site.
The film’s cast includes Orynbek Shaimaganbetov, Arnur Akram, Yerbolat Alkozha, Beinur Baimukhambetov, Yerlan Malayev, Aibek Imankulov, and Aiganym Nursultan.

The Busan International Film Festival is the largest film festival in Asia and is one of the most important film festivals in the world. The festival has been held annually in Busan, South Korea since 1996.
