Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon arrives in Astana for working visit

Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Astana on a working visit on Friday, August 25. He was met at the airport by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Turanews.kz reports citing the press service of Akorda.

During the visit, the two presidents are expected to hold bilateral meetings to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and cooperation in the energy and transport sectors. They are also expected to attend events held within the framework of the Days of Culture of Tajikistan in Kazakhstan.

The Days of Culture of Tajikistan in Kazakhstan are a series of cultural events that are being held in Astana and other cities across Kazakhstan from August 25 to September 4. The events are aimed at promoting Tajik culture and heritage to the Kazakh people.

Rahmon’s visit to Astana is the latest in a series of high-level exchanges between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. In June, Tokayev visited Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, for a meeting with Rahmon. The two presidents discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between their two countries.

Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are both members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a regional organization of former Soviet republics. The two countries have close economic and political ties. In 2022, bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan amounted to $1.2 billion.
