A delegation from the Taliban-led interim government of Afghanistan arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday to participate in a joint business forum. The delegation is headed by Nuriddin Azizi, the minister of industry and trade, Turanews.kz reports.
The forum, which will be held from August 3 to 5, is expected to bring together more than 150 Afghan entrepreneurs from different sectors of the economy, including banks. The Afghan delegation will also hold negotiations with the leadership of the Kazakh Ministry of Trade and Integration, the company Kazakhexport, banks of the second level, and logistics companies.
The visit comes as Afghanistan is seeking to rebuild its economy after the withdrawal of US and NATO troops. Kazakhstan is one of Afghanistan’s most important trading partners, and the two countries have a long history of economic cooperation.
The Taliban delegation is expected to discuss a range of issues with their Kazakh counterparts, including the expansion of trade, transit, and investment ties. They are also likely to discuss the need for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
The visit is seen as a sign of the Taliban’s commitment to rebuilding the Afghan economy and normalizing relations with the international community.
