More than 66,000 new cars were sold in Kazakhstan in the first five months of 2023, according to official data. This is an increase of 20% from the same period last year, Turanews.kz reports citing Finprom.kz.
The most popular brands of new cars in Kazakhstan are Chevrolet and Hyundai, which together account for more than half of the total sales. Chevrolet sold 17,600 cars in the first five months of 2023, while Hyundai sold 17,400 cars. Kia is the third most popular brand, with 9,900 cars sold.
Five Chinese brands also made it into the top ten most popular brands in Kazakhstan in the first five months of 2023: Chery, Haval, Exeed, Changan, and Jac. Toyota and Lexus are also among the top ten most popular brands.
The most popular car model in Kazakhstan in the first five months of 2023 was the Chevrolet Cobalt, with 2,300 cars sold. The Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage were the second and third most popular models, with 1,100 cars sold each.
In addition to the Tucson and Sportage, the top ten most popular cars in Kazakhstan in the first five months of 2023 included four other Hyundai models: Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe, and Bayon. Another Chevrolet model, the Nexia, and one Kia model, the K5, also made it into the top ten.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro was the only new car model to make it into the top ten in May 2023.
The strong sales of new cars in Kazakhstan in the first five months of 2023 are a sign of the country’s growing economy. The government of Kazakhstan is also taking steps to promote the development of the automotive industry in the country, which is expected to further boost demand for new cars in the coming years.
