Kyrgyzstan takes steps to develop renewable energy
The construction of the first solar power plant in Kyrgyzstan is on track to begin, Turanews.kz reports.
According to the National Investment Agency, the plant, which will be located in the Issyk-Kul region, will have a capacity of 50 MW and will be built by Kun-Bulagy LLC, a joint venture between a Kyrgyz company and the Kazakh company TGS-Energy Limited.
The plant is expected to cost more than $35 million to build, and it is expected to be completed in 2024. Once operational, the plant will generate enough electricity to power about 20,000 homes.
The construction of the solar power plant is part of Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and reduce its reliance on imported energy. The country currently gets most of its electricity from hydropower, but the government is looking to develop other sources of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.
The construction of the solar power plant is a significant step forward for Kyrgyzstan’s renewable energy sector. The plant will be the first large-scale solar power plant in the country, and it is expected to pave the way for the development of other solar power projects in the future.
