Nursing home built by TIKA opens in Mongolia

The nursing home built by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) was put into service in Bayan Ulgii province, Mongolia, Turanews.kz reports.

The old building of the nursing home affiliated to the Bayan Ulgii Provincial Directorate of Social Assistance and Services was inspected by the Occupational Inspection Institution in 2004 and a report of unusable use was given. However, the residents of the nursing home had to live in the same building for many years because a new building could not be built.

In that difficult time, TIKA had extended a helping hand to his kinsmen in Mongolia and took over the construction in 2022. As of May 2023, the nursing home was completed equipped with the all necessary equipment.

The opening ceremony of the nursing home was attended by Ambassador of Türkiye to Ulan bator Ambassador Zafer Ates, TIKA Central Asia and Caucasus Department Head Dr. Ali Ozgun Ozturk, Bayan Ulgii Provincial Council President Habil Sariv, Provincial Social Services Director Galya Akras, TIKA Ulanbatur Coordinator Emrah Ustaomer and residents of the nursing home attended.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Ambassador Ozturk said:

“As we are TIKA, it is a great pleasure to be here for the opening of this nursing home which is one of the most meaningful projects we have realized in Mongolia. In Turkic culture and belief, It is important to take care of our elderly people. With this belief, we implemented this project in order to solve the housing problem of our elderly people and to enable them to live in a comfortable environment.”

Provincial Social Services Director Akras stated that they are happy to have a new building and expressed his appreciation the Turkish people and TIKA for their support:

“This nursing home which was established in 1958, it never had a chance to service our elderly people in a new facility. When we moved from Bugat district to the city center in 1997, the building was an old building used by the Veterinary Institution that time too. As of today, for the first time, we will be able to serve our elderly and orphans in a new building which was built for us.”
