Nearly 11,000 ballot boxes set up across the country are voting for the referendum on the constitutional amendment.
Citizens will answer either “Yes” or “No” to the new constitution.
In Uzbekistan, where voting will continue until 20.00, there are a total of 19 million 722 thousand 809 registered voters, 307 thousand 895 of whom are abroad.
Citizens abroad will also be able to vote in 55 ballot boxes established in 39 countries, including Turkey.
The Constitution is about changing the articles related to human rights and freedoms, society and individual, administrative-territorial structure and administration of the country, increasing the presidential term from 5 to 7 years, transferring some authorities of the president to the parliament.
At the general assembly of the Legislative Assembly held on March 10, the “law on new regulations in the Uzbekistan constitution” was adopted, and then the Senate General Assembly approved the submission of the draft constitution, in which the said new regulations and amendments were made, to the public vote on April 30.
