Turkmenistan to host eco-festival dedicated to Earth Day

On the occasion of the International Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22, an eco-festival will be held in the city of Turkmenabat, Turanews.kz reports citing Orient

The event will be organized by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan. A book exhibition and a review of handmade products will unfold for the guests of the environmental campaign. They will also get acquainted with education in the USA, and taste vegetarian food.

A competitive quiz is waiting for visitors, which includes questions on environmental protection and the impact of climate change.

The event will be held in the Bitaraplyk Park. It starts at 16:00. U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Matthew Klimow will also attend.

Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 in the USA. At the same time, the date was set — April 22. Over time, other countries joined the event. Only in 2009, the United Nations adopted a resolution according to which April 22 became an official holiday — International Mother Earth Day.

The day is intended to remind that each of us owes self-existence to our planet and its ecosystems.
