Russia set to take helm of UN Security Council
From Saturday, April 1, Russia will chair the UN Security Council for a month, according to the organization’s Twitter account, Turanews.kz reports citing DW.
The presiding countries in the UN Security Council change every month. Their order is determined in alphabetical order (A-Z).
The Chairman of the UN Security Council appoints and opens meetings, but at the same time does not have the power to influence this or that decision on Council resolutions.
Before Russia, Mozambique chaired the Security Council, and Switzerland will take this post on May 1. Russia last chaired the UN Security Council in February 2022 when it invaded Ukraine.
