Berdimuhamedov: I hope Turkmenistan to become soon a full member of OTS
Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan spoke at the extraordinary OTS summit in Ankara
Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed that he hopes Turkmenistan to become soon a full member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
“I believe that if our legislation is improved, Turkmenistan can join the ranks of the Turkic family” Berdimuhamedov said.
Berdimuhamedov also proposed declaring the city of Merv (Mary) as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024.
Speaking about the February earthquakes, the previous President of Turkmenistan noted the importance of the unity of the Turkic world. “On a difficult day, we must support each other, we need to be together on such a day,” the Turkmen politician said.
Berdimuhamedov noted that OTS member countries are located in seismically active regions. “I propose to lay the foundations for seismic control in the countries of the Turkic world,” he added.
Speaking at the OTS summit, Berdimuhamedov also proposed to nominate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In addition, the Turkmen leader proposed to improve the situation with the provision of energy resources between the OTS member countries.
The summit on the topic “Disaster Management and Humanitarian Aid” was initiated by Azerbaijan against the backdrop of the consequences of the devastating February earthquakes in Türkiye.
The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was established in 2009. In November 2021, at the summit in Istanbul, the organization was named the Organization of Turkic States
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan re main members of the OTS. Turkmenistan and Hungary participate as observers in the Organization.
