Tajikistan’s Sughd region increases car imports

In 2022, totally 31,439 cars with worth of 125.1 million dollars were imported to the Sughd region of Tajikistan and this is 11,300 cars and $49 million more than in the same period of previous year, Turanews.kz reports citing Asia Plus agency.

Anvar Aqilov, first vice-president of the regional customs office in the Sughd region, made statements about the increase in automobile imports.

He said that this number of cars entered the Sogdian region mainly from European countries, China, Georgia, Russia, Korea and Uzbekistan, and most of them had a production year after 2005.

“There is only one restriction; the import of cars manufactured before 2005 is prohibited. Because that is the requirement of the legislation and we do not allow their importation in accordance with the requirements of the law.” Anvar Aqilov said,

It should be noted that according to the decision taken by the Government of Tajikistan since 2018, the import of cars manufactured before 2005 into the country is prohibited. If such vehicles are attempted to be imported, the customs authorities will prohibit this and maintain special warehouses. It will be re-exported or re-exported if necessary and with the vehicle owner’s permission.
